Cultural Transformations: Lei Wili Workshop with Aunty Allie Jeremiah
Please join us for our first Cultural workshop of May:
Lei Wili Workshop with Aunty Allie Jeremiah!
When: Sunday, May 4, 2025
Time: 12PM - 3PM
Where: UTOPIA PDX office 7535 NE AMBASSADOR PLACE SUITE F, PORTLAND, OR 97220
For this May workshop Aunty Allie will be teaching Lei Po’o or a lei to be worn on the head in the “Wili” style which is wrapping flowers and greens to a base. This lei is often mistakenly referred to as “Haku”. She will be showing us the difference between the two styles and will also teach us more about all the different styles of lei. Please do join us for this very fun and informative lei workshop!
Aunty Allie Jeremiah was born and raised on the island of O'ahu. She has always enjoyed beautiful flowers on her island home. As a young cultural practitioner she learned how to utilize the beautiful natural resources to create beautiful creations to share with her community.
Today, Aunty Allie resides in Oregon and still shares her talents as a cultural artisan with our community. Making and giving lei is significant in Hawaiian culture. Aunty Allie does a wonderful job of telling this story of sharing Aloha through her art. E komo mai and join us in the telling of your story through making lei.
A suggested donation of $20 would be greatly appreciated to help us continue sharing our cultural traditions and knowledge through more of our COVE programming.
